A fantastic antique reading table by Carters of London. Converting from a table to a reading lectern and with adjustable height.
Famed for his various inventions under the Trade Marked banner 'Literary Machines', John Carter was a Victorian inventor / cabinet maker operating out of 6A Cavendish Street, Portland Place, London from the 1880's.
Carter produced all manner of reading tables, chairs, couches, beds and bath chairs, many specifically aimed at wounded soldiers. Winning 20 gold medals and awards, Carter was maker to The Queen (Victoria), Prince of Wales and Emperors of Russia and Germany having gained a reputation for quality
The table is made from Mahogany with cast iron lifting mechanism and porcelain castors. The cast iron is stamped with the Carters name and bears makers label for Carters.
Could be used as a console or side table. Or as a rest for a laptop in bed! A stunning usable table, perfect for any modern interior to add soul and character to a space.
Condition
Shows signs of wear and tear as it is old and has been used, but only adds to its character. Great decorative item which would look fantastic in any home or business interior.
