A fantastic antique bench. Stamped by the maker, Thonet underneath. This fabulous period bentwood bench was made by German-Austrian cabinet maker Gerbruder Thonet around 1910 in Vienna. It uses the unique craftsman technique of steaming wood or bentwood. The bench started off with a cane seat and has later been reupholstered and has recently been covered with a lovely Art Nouveau woven fabric. The slightly tapered legs and cut out back rest gives the bench a wonderful elegant design which is still current today. A rare period piece perfect to add soul and character to any modern interior.
Condition
Some scratches and scuffs to wood, especially on the back uprights. Shows signs of wear and tear as it is old and has been used, but only adds to its character. Great decorative item which would look fantastic in any home or business interior.
