A fantastic antique reading table by John Carter of London. John Carter was a cabinet maker and inventor operating out of Cavendish Road, London from 1858. The firm specialised in furniture customised for use for injured military personnel.
This reading table is designed to be used over a bed or chair and can be tilted and raised for the best position. The cast iron mechanism to raise the top is stamped with Carters and the underside bears an ivorine label for Carter Ltd by appointment to the King. We therefore assume that this dates from post 1901, presumably during the Edwardian period.
An interesting and versatile piece that could be incorporated into a modern interior in a number of ways.
Condition
There is wear to the finish on the base. Shows signs of wear and tear as it is old and has been used, but only adds to its character. Great decorative item which would look fantastic in any home or business interior.
Please look at photos closely as they form part of the item description.
Dimensions
84 cm width, 42 cm depth, adjustable height 68 to 95 cm
