A fantastic antique small dish. Stamped by the maker, Mappin and Webb of London and Sheffield. It's made from silver plate and dates from the Victorian period. The company was founded in 1810 by Joseph Mappin Sr. and later Joseph Mappin and Son. From 1852 the company traded as 'Mappin Brothers'. This partnership was dissolved in 1859, but the name carried on until a partnership was established with Webb. This exaample was used as a sugar dish or tea slop bowl. With a wonderful classic shape and date letter A, and part number W28100 to the base. A fabulous period piece, perfect for any table to use and enjoy.
