A fantastic oil on board portrait. The original portrait of Pope Innocent X was painted around 1650 by Spanish painter Diego Velazquez. This hand painted piece is by scenic artist and set designer, Roy Monk. Painted and signed, in 1963.
Roy began his career at the Elstree Film Studios. He has worked on many productions such as Ken Russell's 'The Boy Friend', The Dirty Dozen' and 'Star Wars'. He has worked on the sets of iconic series 'The Avengers', 'The Saint' and 'Upstairs Downstairs'. He has collaborated with sculptors on pieces which have been exhibited at the Royal Academy and various West End Galleries.
This stunning painting has a wonderful depth of colour and is under glass. The egg and dart frame is unfinished and has splash of paint from Roy's studio. We have sourced this piece direct from the artist and have several pieces available from this collection. A wonderful piece, perfect for any modern interior to add soul and character to a space.
Condition
The frame is unpainted in areas and has splashes of paint. The painting has had a new mount and backing board fitted by a professional framer. Shows signs of wear and tear as it is old and has been used, but only adds to its character. Great decorative item which would look fantastic in any home or business interior.
